Thought I’d have a go at that fasting thing that’s so popular at the moment. No links cos they’re getting quite enough publicity as it is.
Here’s what I did. I ate my final meal of the day yesterday, Sunday, at 5pm. I then didn’t eat again until 9am this morning. That’s 16 hours sans food. Which is one way of doing it and is supposed to have same effect as that 5:2 thing. The food I ate yesterday was fairly scarce too so I guess you could say I semi-fasted yesterday; did one of the :2 days.
Fasting makes me ill
How did I do? I did awful. I felt utterly wretched. I felt:-
unable to concentrat
Worst of all, I couldn’t even sleep it off! I kept waking up. My body yelling at FOR GOODNESS SAKE GIVE ME SOMETHING TO EAT!!!
So I tried to fast. But I always knew this would happen. It’s a bit like holding your breath. I mean you can if you really want to. Possibly for half a minute. But, you know, WHY!!!!
Fasting’s not for me
If the fasting thing works for you then fine, do it and best of luck. Today I’ve eaten an entire Paleo diet: one-egg ham omelette with mushrooms and tomato for breakfast. Chicken and avocado salad for lunch. Bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and egg for tea. Two portions of strawberries with full-fat creme fraiche.
I feel full, happy and healthy. My brain is functioning as it should instead of just thinking about food. I’ll sleep better tonight too.
That’s another thing the zero blood sugar did to me – I had some very weird, really rather horrible, dreams. One dream was that I had a large, festering sore on my right-hand wrist that was bubbling like something out of Dr. Who.
Some of us just don’t have the constitution for a semi-fasting diet. Don’t feel bad if you’re one of them. Do whatever works for you. Thanks for listening. Tune in tomorrow for more tales of eating well, losing weight and getting healthier all the time.
