It’s utterly intolerable that people are forced to use foodbanks in Britain today but it’s also bizarre that in such a rich country it’s now so necessary. Why is this? We can all come up with our pet theories of course. But now food blogger and campaigner Jack Monroe has set up a petition calling on Parliament to debate the issue.
Seems a sound idea to me. Let’s get this often hidden distress out in the open where we might be able to change it. I’m choosing to eat less in order to lose weight. But for far too many people in Britain today, they have no choice. And for the first time since the Second World War ended, the Red Cross is distributing food to hungry Britons. Not to a refugee camp or war-torn area. Here, right here, in Britain.
Shocking and utterly shameful. Why though, why? If you agree that this at the very least needs a debate, please sign this petition and ask your friends, family and colleagues to as well.
Thanks.
