So yesterday I decided to have one final go at having a second ‘2’ day on the 5:2 Fast Diet in one week. Having failed on Friday I knew I couldn’t do it Saturday as we had plans that involved food. Sunday however looked promising. I had the day to myself, no obligations to anyone nor anything. Why not give it another go?
You’d think Sunday would be a difficult day to have a semi-fast. After all tis the day of roasts and often sociable gatherings and eatings or even if you’re not seeing anyone or doing anything, it tends to be an eating day. Ever noticed how many ads on commercial TV are for food on a Sunday, especially a Sunday night? So, how did I get on?
Up late ate late
I began by getting up at nine. Which I don’t think is especially late for a Sunday morning but I decided to wait and see how long I could leave it before having my breakfast. I ate my evening meal on Saturday at 6pm so I figured 10am would be a good time. Would mean a sort-of fast, sort of as it included night time, of 16 hours. In the end I managed to last till midday! so I went 18 hours without any food at all.
Lunch, having skipped breakfast, was a one-egg bacon omelette with a sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes – the latter cooked in the juices of the sausage which I grilled. That came to about 250 calories. I then went for a walk, did a wash, cooked some mini omelettes for the week, busied myself as much as I could. Could I last?
Keep it going
I was planning to keep it going till 6pm but after returning from a pleasant walk, I was inevitably hungry. Remember, I’d only eaten 250 calories in all in now nearly 24 hours! So I had another sausage and a cup of tea. A further 145 calories.
Next came my evening meal which as planned I had at six. A tiny steak but big on flavour Just three ounces, or 90 grams, coming in at 120 calories and served with a green salad, no dressing. Which took me to a total a little over 500 at 515.
I DID IT!
So I did it! And aside from a little wobble in the afternoon, I felt fine. I wasn’t hungry in the evening and I went to bed without hunger pangs gnawing at me. So, maybe Sunday is the perfect day to do a ‘2’? Seems to be for me.
Today I’ll be back to a 5 but strictly Paleo. I think it’s beginning to work but I’m now reconciled to having to stick to this much more rigidly than I have been and eating less whether it’s a 5 or a 2 day. Women of my age need fewer calories, even if we’re exercising regularly as I am. If I want to shift at least some of my tum, this is the only way to do it.
Heat less eat
Fortunately it’s a lot easier in this heat and we’re due for another hot one this week so I’m taking full advantage of my appetite which remains shrunk. I’m off the alcohol too as I don’t like it in the hot weather and frankly I’d rather eat my calories than drink them.
Have a great week. Thanks for listening.
