So a while back I said the secrets of successful slimmers is that they forget to eat. Actually the kind of people who forget to eat are those who’ve probably never needed to diet. If you’re able to forget to eat, ever likely you’re not someone with a weight problem. Can anyone who’s ever been on a diet forget to eat? Does not our life revolve around the next meal?
Well not anymore, not for me. Since going Paleo/high protein I often forget to eat. I don’t get the same “OI! You’re hungry!” signals from my brain as I used to. I suspect because eating high protein means I’m satisfied for longer. A diet heavy in carbs tends to play havoc with blood sugar levels. So, okay, I’ve become Person Who Forgets To Eat and great. There’s another big secret of successful skinnies though.
What slim people don’t do
Slim people will throw food away. Fatties never do; or if they do, it truly breaks their heart. How many mums became chubby as a result of eating the food their kids left on their plate? Unable to face chucking it away they chucked it into their own stomachs instead. But it didn’t register as food; it wasn’t like having a meal. It was just clearing up, right?
Nibbling makes you fat! Nibbling leftover carbs especially so yet we’ve all done it; all who are overweight that is. Doing Paleo means mostly cooking from scratch. And that means buying fresh food. Which does go off sometimes, especially if you’re not used to using fresh food.
Chuck it out!
If it goes off or you fear it might and it’s thus become superfluous to use or administratively awkward you must chuck it out rather than eat it. Yes yes yes, I know all about starving kids across the world, and in our own country too. But your leftover food won’t make much difference to them. It can, however, make a big difference to you. Learn to throw food away. Learn to leave food when you’re full. Learn to eat when you feel hungry. Get in touch with those eating cues slim people have. Eat like a slim person and eventually you’ll be a slim person.
Fear of hunger
It’s also vital to stop fearing hunger – another trait of the successfully slim. If you’ve ever packed a ton of sandwiches for a short walk around the block, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Or if you’ve eaten before an event or going out “just in case I get hungry” you know what I’m talking about. Unless there are compelling medical reasons to do so, eating to try and stop yourself from getting hungry later is nuts. But keep some nuts handy in case you do get hungry. They’re brilliantly filling and they’re brilliantly Paleo. Obviously don’t do this if you have a nut allergy.
Have a good Tuesday. More later in the week.
