So today I begin my dairy-free journey. Was a *tiny* bit of milk still left over so I had that in my coffee first thing but now, it’s milk-free all the way. Until I maybe decide to investigate raw milk which I’m reliably informed is better than the stuff most of us normally have.
Why is milk a baddie? And cheese, cream, other milk products but not butter? Or eggs? Well I’m not entirely sure of the science and I must stress again that I am NOT a nutritionist, doctor nor dietitian. This isn’t an advice blog. This is a piece of experimental immersive journalism. And my decision is based on observation mostly.
Well it worked for her!
I saw someone for whom Paleo worked. She dropped three stone (40 pounds/20 kilos) and cut her required medication for Type 2 Diabetes in half. So thought I’d give it a go having seen, literally, before my eyes that it worked for someone I knew.
Another person of my acquaintance cut all dairy products out and lost a shedload of weight though she wasn’t trying to. As I understand it, milk and milk products encourage the production of mucus and cause inflammation. As does grain. And most cows are fed grain!
Feeling better
Others have told me that they feel better for not having milk and let’s face it, milk is baby food. It’s not meant to be imbibed by adults. The Chinese have it right, saying, I believe, that we milk sloshers all smell of cheese! And speaking of smell… I DO actually smell better since I went Paleo and grain free. I reckon dairy free can only help. And a diet as restrictive as mine now is will send the pounds plunging away. I hope!
Butter is mostly fat so doesn’t affect the digestive system in same way that milk does. Butter is fine! Eggs too.
Confidence boost
It’s a tremendous confidence boost to set yourself an onerous task and succeed at it. Setting goals is something many people are required to do for work – or rather meet goals someone else has set them. Setting your own helps you feel back in control of your life.
If you’re unhappy, unfulfilled, insecure or all three, you might be tempted to comfort eat. Lord knows I’m the Queen of comfort and emotional eating. You feel so much better though when you eat for health. There’s real comfort. And far more lasting.
Let you know how I go. Thanks for listening.
