This is a very significant day for me. One I’ve been waiting for forever. Well, bit of an exaggeration but not much. Tonight I am off to the Odeon in Hanley, Stoke on Trent, to see the fabulous play This House. A play. At a cinema. Who’d have thunk it eh? See the trailer.
Written by James Graham, directed by Jeremy Herrin, I can’t rate this utterly delightful ensemble play highly enough (not fair to single out any of the actors; they’re all wonderful). With truly terrific music provided by house band Acoustic Jim and The Wires it’s by far the best piece of live theatre I’ve seen in a long while if not forever. And now I can see it at my local cinema! How cool is that? Seen it already three times at The National but this time I only have to drive down the road! Pardon? Speak up! Ah yes, what’s this got to do with my diet?
Cinema food
This is entirely unrelated to my diet. I just felt like writing about something else for a change. But to make it relevant if I must… cinema food. Full of fat, salt, sugar and of course carbs. YUMMY! Won’t touch a morsel. I’ll just breathe in very deeply and imbibe it that way.
I may go for a burger before the show but sans bun, natch. Day Two of going dairy free and thus far only thing to report is that I have HEAPS more energy. Perhaps a bit too much. This play is two hours 45 minutes long! And I have to sit still.
Herbal tea? Moi? Do me a flavour…
Had lots of suggestions for how to cope with going milk-free. Try herbal teas instead has been high among the suggested alternatives. Very sweet of people to offer them but, no thanks. Nor will I be imbibing soya milk. Smell alone makes me want to puke. No I’ll white knuckle this ride thanks all the same. Me and herbal teas do not along get. I can do black coffee fine. Black tea I am… getting used to.
Breakfast all day long
Today I couldn’t get out and so had to fall back again on what I had in the house – ha! D’you see what I did there? The house. This House. Remember? Where we came in. Where was I? Ah yes, what food I had in. Only breakfast stuff. Sausages. Eggs. Tomatoes. Bacon and of course mushroom. Chestnut mushrooms, firm, round and brown.
So I ate various combinations of that lot all day. Reckon at most my calories came to about 1200. Which on a normal low fat/high carb conventional diet would mean I would be chewing the carpet round about now but I’m not hungry! It worketh!
Get a ticket NOW!
See you tomorrow! And if there’s time, and you can get a ticket, do try to get along to your local cinema that’s showing This House if you can. It’s being beamed direct from The National to cinemas all over the world. A shared experience. How often do we get them, aside from sport?
And what a day to see it! Day after 116 Tory MPs voted against their own leadership! Why it’s almost like the days of the 1970s coalition government all over again. Which is, by the way, what This House is all about. GO SEE IT!
Disclaimer: neither the cast, crew nor production team of This House have paid me for this plug. And neither has the National. This one’s on me.
