With the party season upon us, do you worry about feeding people who have allergies? Or who are vegetarian, teetotal, vegan, gluten, wheat or dairy free? My colleague Eve Menezes Cunningham has written a lovely piece for a magazine called Rapport about how to cope on such occasions.
And she interviewed me for the piece! Because I said I find it a fun challenge to cater for different diets. Which I do. For me, anything to do with food is interesting. Even if it’s about what not to eat!
So don’t panic if you’re currently planning invite lists. The party’s the thing, not the food. That you’re inviting people to a do and want to entertain and nourish them should be sufficient. You won’t be judged on your host/hostessing abilities if you have nice friends. And only nice friends should be invited to anything where there’ll be free food and drink.
Feeding people is the kindest thing you can do. It’s love on a plate – even if it’s a paper one with just a sausage roll and egg sarnie on it. Keep calm and try to remember to enjoy yourself. It’s supposed to be an enjoyable occasion, not an ordeal! Read Eve’s piece for tons more advice on how to deal with this tricky situation – and why it needn’t be tricky at all!
