So today I began to wean myself off dairy. Haven’t gone completely dairy free. I still have some milk and cream in the ‘fridge and I need to use them up first. Can’t bear to throw food away. Nor can I bear to go completely dairy free in one go but… shopping today, I didn’t buy any fresh dairy.
So no cheese, no cottage cheese, no milk, no cream, no creme fraiche and no more Babybels to sate the odd hunger pang. Hell just cutting that lot out together with cutting bread, pasta, rice and potatoes should by itself be enough to send the next stone packing.
Tougher, leaner, harder, meaner
It gets tougher now. A LOT tougher. Any fatty like me can shed a stone when they’ve three or four to lose. Just cut back a bit, do a bit more exercise, stop eating crisps and you’re away. The real test of my diet will be if I can get the next stone off, preferably by, say, sometime in August and then shift the last stone before Christmas.
That’s my goal. Three stone off in a year, or ten and a bit months as I started in February. I fear if I don’t keep losing the weight, I’ll give up as I always have before.
More protein, more fat!
To make up for cutting dairy out my diet, I’ll need to increase the amount of protein and fat I’m eating from non-dairy sources. Shouldn’t be difficult. Avocados are lovely and creamy, I can still have mayonnaise and butter and protein is more filling than cream. Though I will miss cheese oh how I will miss cheese but… it has to be done!
Last week on my lean Tuesday when I limited myself to food I had in the house I did fine without any dairy, or not much. Seem to recall a few Babybels slipped rather nicely down.
Filling hunger holes
All dieters have a food they fall back on to kill hunger pangs, fill a hole yet keep them losing weight. Pre Paleo it was crispbreads with me. You too? Then it became Babybels. Now it’s going to be pieces of chicken, ham or some other form of protein. Which is a lot harder to organise than filling your ‘fridge with baby cheeses. The baby cheeses will have to wait till Christmas, ho ho ho… d’you see what I did there? I’m here all week. Try the fish.
Anyway, this is day one of Year Zero dairy wise, kind of, almost but not quite yet. By the end of the week I should be dairy free simply by having a home that is dairy free. Scary… but exciting too! Helps that it’s summer soon. Well, in theory.
Have a good week.
