It’s a week since I blogged and by now I was hoping to report that I was back on Paleo and all was well with the world. But that’s not the case. Oh all is well in my world right now. Very well. But my appetite and diet are still not back to normal and as I promised blistering honesty in this blog, I though I should report that stunning fact to my half dozen or so readers.
I’m happy with things the way they are at the moment. I am no longer following Paleo because I can’t stand even the thought of the smell of bacon, let alone sausages or a full fry up. I am however eating a lot less. I think if truth be told, I regarded Paleo as an excuse to gorge some of the time; well, all right then. Most of the time. Now I’m back on the carbs and am eating the full range of foods with none forbidden, I feel I have to cut back.
Forbidden foods
Which is interesting psychologically. Could a diet with no forbidden foods be better for me – and perhaps other dieters – than one that restricts a certain food group?
I was always of the mindset before I began this diet that cutting an entire food group out was not a good idea. Soon as you make something forbidden you increase its attraction. And Dr. Robert Lustig <bows and genuflects> says it’s fine to have sugar sometimes. Just not all the time. So that’s what I’m doing.
Making a difference
We’ll see if it makes much difference. When I eventually get around to weighing in again if I am around 13.7 that will be three whole pounds off in three months! Not enough but it’s a loss and steady. At that rate by the end of year I could be down to just under 13 stone and frankly right now, I’ll take that! I’ll bite your hand off for it. Because it’s felt to me for some time now that I’ve stopped losing and nothing I do – even a vile bout of gastroenteritis – can make the weight go.
So why not try something different? I do still believe in the Paleo philosophy and I think, hell, I KNOW, it’s much easier to overeat carbs than overeat protein. But right now, it’s not for me. I will try to compromise by never eating carbs without the addition of protein and/or fat. So no naked carbs for me! That might help a little. I’ll also try to go carb light and get if not all my calories from protein and fat then most of them. We’ll see. This phase may eventually pass but till it does, I’ll be back on the old tried and test method of trying to lose weight. I’ll just eat less!
Have a great weekend.
