Apparently I got it wrong on Friday, Good Friday that is. Easter eggs aren’t traditionally eaten then. They’re eaten today, when Easter actually begins. I do understand, despite being raised in the Jewish faith, that The Resurrection which is celebrated today is the basis upon which much of Christianity rests and I recognise that Easter is a far more solemn, holy and important time for Christians than Christmas. Mind, that said both were actually celebrated as Pagan festivals long before they became Christian but, you know, each to their own. Let us live in peace and harmony together.
And while I unreservedly apologise for getting this wrong, I wasn’t being entirely serious about Good Friday being the day we all start eating Easter eggs and I hope most readers recognised this. Besides, I’m in a very good mood with Christian church leaders today. Several of them have come out against the truly vicious, horrible, Government attacks on the weakest, poorest and most vulnerable. And I applaud that. I think it’s what church leaders SHOULD do and I think Jesus would approve.
Still no Easter egg in this house!
I will keep to my promise made earlier that I won’t buy or eat an Easter egg unless I see one reduced, and an expensive high cocoa solids one at that! Today, Easter Sunday, I have been very good. Light breakfast of a one-egg omelette with mushrooms. Cottage cheese and avocado salad for lunch. Chicken in mayonnaise with paprika in avocado with salad leaves for tea. I also went for a long walk. Okay so I somehow ended up at a supermarket intending to buy treats but I did the walk beforehand. And the supermarket was closed! I think it’s the one day of the year they’re legally obliged to close. And I applaud this. Keeping certain days sacred isn’t a bad idea and shop workers deserve a definite day off.
Loving this Easter!
I can’t quite believe I don’t have to go back to work tomorrow. It’s delicious having another Sunday. That’s what a bank holiday (public holiday) feels like. I will continue tomorrow with what I began on Friday and set myself as my target for the long Easter weekend. One short story written each day. Okay so that’s not entirely relevant to a diet blog. But it made me feel very happy to achieve this simple target I set myself and when you’re happy, self actualised and fulfilled, you’re far less likely to comfort eat so there you go. I made it relevant!
Have a lovely day tomorrow if you too don’t have to work. Enjoy the rest of the holidays if you’re off for a bit longer.
